About this blog

Welcome to ‘The daily photo blog’, a photo project that started the first of January 2010.

What?

The idea is that I will post 1 picture every day. The content of that picture will be completely random, maybe something that happens in my life or something I come across in my daily commute, it could be anything.

What I’ll try, is not just making a photograph, but making an image that is great to look at, a quality photograph.

Why?

First of all, this is a great exercise for me, this way I’ll force myself to think about creating images every day. And hopefully that ‘thinking about images’ will come naturally after a while.

Second: there’s an American photographer (Chase Jarvis) who says “The best camera, is the one that’s with you”. What he means with this, is that you don’t need to have an expensive camera with you all the time. If you come across something beautiful and you only have your cellphone with you, just take it out, and make a great picture. He even proves that it’s possible to make great and beautiful images with a 2 MP iPhone camera. And if you’re more familiar in the photography world, then you’ll know this is partially the idea behind the LOMO philosophy.

And that’s exactly what I want to do, I want to create an image every day, but I don’t want to spend too much time doing it, I’ll simply grab my iPhone, try to make a good photograph, and upload it to this blog.

How?

To be clear, the ‘camera gear’ that I’ll be using is an iPhone 3G, if you’re not familiar with it, that’s the model from 2 years ago, it has a 2 megapixel camera, and to be honest, the quality sucks. But that’s part of the experience, it’s a challenge for me to try and make a good photograph.

Maybe I’ll sometimes use a couple of little ‘Apps’ on my phone to edit the image. See it as a mobile ‘Photoshop’.

And last I’ll use the official WordPress iPhone app to upload my daily image.

Is that all?

As always, please give me some feedback, so that I know how I’m doing. It’s always nice to hear if your work is appreciated, but even if you don’t like the concept or an image, please let me know, and I’ll do my best and improve where possible.

The only thing I don’t know yet, is how long this will go on, but I guess that’s something time will tell.

That’s about it, and I hope we both (you ‘the viewer’ and myself) will enjoy this project…

See you soon.
